Background of the Issue

The Gap Between Accelerating Technology and Adaptation

  • Driven by rapid technological advancements, the future our children face is changing at an unpredictable speed

  • We face a vital question: how should we navigate and engage with new technologies, such as generative AI?

Environmental Challenges

Educational Challenges Facing Children

  • Shortage of Educational Budgets

Limited budgets mean that administrative staffing, teaching materials, facilities, and specialized support fail to reach where they are needed most.

  • Overburdened Teachers & Lack of Time

Teachers are overwhelmed with non-teaching duties, leaving them with insufficient time for lesson preparation, curriculum research, and face-to-face interaction with students.

  • Widening Disparities in Educational Opportunities

A child’s socioeconomic background and geographic location are creating huge gaps in how quickly they can access new learning opportunities and immersive experiences.

Impact on Children

Impact on Children’s Motivation and Action

  • IT for “Consumption Only”

Children’s use of technology is heavily skewed toward passive consumption, making it difficult for them to appreciate the importance of creating things on their own.

  • Lack of Opportunities to Test Ideas

As educational content expands and becomes more advanced, there is little room or “blank space” left for children to freely conceptualize and learn through trial and error.

  • Lack of Experiences That Build Confidence

Without accumulating small experiences of failure and success, children cannot develop the motivation and confidence to take on new challenges.

The Friends I Met, the Challenges That Opened My Future

    Iori, Mimimi-Lab User

When I first visited, I remember feeling so grateful to have a space where I could still spend time with friends, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Competing in the robot tournament as a team was challenging, but it turned out to be an incredibly rewarding learning experience. Chatting with friends I met at mimimi Lab and doing some DJing are also wonderful memories. Connecting with people I’d never meet at school or home has truly expanded my daily horizons. To me, mimimi Lab is truly “a place where I can do what I love, 100%.”

Co-creating Information Education for a New Era

Shinichi Kataoka, Teacher at Ichikawa Technical High School

Our school has received wide-ranging support from Code for Everyone, starting with online classes for career education, followed by assistance with implementing Generative AI, the provision of the ‘Proguru Information’ learning material, and even logistical support during media coverage for a TV program.
Mr. Nagano from Code for Everyone was actually the instructor for my initial teacher training. I deeply resonated with his sincere approach and his insights into the future of computer science education. I truly look forward to continuing our work with Code for Everyone to shape and build the information literacy skills needed for this new era.

  • 「みんなで生成AIコース」を活用した授業を受けた高校生

A growing mindset toward embracing technology

A high school student who took a class using the “Generative AI for Everyone Course”

“Before this, I didn’t know how AI actually worked, and because it made so many mistakes, I thought it would be difficult to use.
However, I was incredibly surprised to learn for the first time that AI doesn’t just look up answers through a search; instead, it builds words based on probabilities from the surrounding context. Understanding this mechanism helped me realize that it’s only natural for AI to make mistakes. I came to see that instead of avoiding AI out of fear of hallucinations, it’s important for us as humans to use it with the prerequisite understanding that it will make errors.”

A world without easy answers. Moving forward side by side with Code for Everyone, we inspire the next generation by never stopping our pursuit.

Noritake Okazaki / High School Teacher

“The sheer speed of our times is staggering. I’ve run hard trying to give my students a broad, high-level perspective on the future, but the truth is, nobody can see what lies ahead for certain. It can be anxiety-inducing. Yet, Code for Everyone is always right there running beside me, offering ‘Proguru’ and timely seminars. Their digital policymaking and creation hubs feel like beacons lighting the path to tomorrow. They give me such strength.
Ultimately, I believe the most powerful thing we can show our students is the sight of adults and teachers who refuse to stop challenging themselves. That is why I want to keep running forward. Because I believe that is exactly where the future lies.”

  • (服部佑樹 様/IT企業勤務)

Now that AI is a part of our daily lives, we want to give children the spark to discover the joy of unleashing their own creativity.

    Yuki Hattori / IT Professional

“In an era where AI allows anyone to write code, I feel that the foundational skills of critical thinking and creativity have become more important than ever. It’s easy to overcomplicate the idea of creative making, but all it takes is a little spark for anyone to tap into their creativity and enjoy the process. I believe Code for Everyone is that essential spark for children. I will continue to support them so that the next generation of builders can shape the future with their own hands.”
